Behind her name:

We wanted to have a name that would be meaningful to either side of the family, my side or Elin's side, because she was born [the day after] Father's Day. It just happened to fit. My father had always called me Sam since the day I was born. He rarely ever called me Tiger. I would ask him, 'Why don't you ever call me Tiger?' He says, 'Well, you look more like a Sam.

Birth Story:

Tiger described the stressful weekend preceding Sam's birth -- Elin was hospitalized in Orlando on Thursday, June 14th while Tiger was playing in the US Open. Tiger said,

It wasn't life-threatening or anything, but she just had a few problems and had to be admitted. It wasn't easy. It was not easy, because I wanted to be there. And the doctor and Elin said, 'There's nothing you can do. So go out there and just get a 'W.' Well, came close. But that night was infinitely more rewarding than any 'W' ever could have been.

I flew, landed in Orlando, went straight to the hospital and next thing you know, we have Sam Alexis in our arms [in the early morning hours of Monday, June 18th].

What They Said:

When asked if he had advice for new dad, fellow athlete Tom Brady, Tiger said:

Well, you don't sleep, that's for sure. It's fantastic. You hear from every parent who's ever had their first child that it's an experience that you'll never forget. You always want to be there. It's the little things. I've only been a dad for about two months now, but it's just the little things each and every day.

I'm away from home this week, and you miss those things. Granted, when you're at home it drives you crazy at times, especially late nights, 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning gets a little tough. But those times actually you really do sort of miss them, as well.

When speaking about skipping the Buick Open, Tiger said:

We're still getting settled at home and it's important to be there for my family. I look forward to playing next year. Both [Elin and Sam] are healthy and happy. I can't describe how wonderful it is to be a father. This is something I dreamed about and I'm enjoying every minute. It's a good thing I don't need much sleep.

Tiger said that Sam may have a future in pictures because, as an infant, she loved lights:

She loves light for some reason,. I don't know if that means she's going to love cameras, but she loves light. She likes just to stare at light. It has actually been pretty neat. To make her fall asleep, just turn the light on.

On having more kids, Tiger said:

I can't tell you how eye-opening it has been and how fantastic it has been. Here is one of the weirdest feelings you have as a parent. It has been so hard and so difficult, so time-consuming, but you can't wait to have another one. Theoretically, it doesn't make any sense, but it has been so cool. We just can't wait to experience more things with Sam and obviously hopefully have others in the future.

Most recently, Tiger credited Sam for his speedy recovery from knee surgery in April.

There's no way I could have gotten through this without Sam being there, spending that much time off and away from training and trying to get better, Sam was absolutely incredible. I had so much fun doing that. It took my mind away from the fact that I had a surgery done, and just watching her grow, walking, running now, it’s been just the greatest thing in the world.

As Tiger prepared to hoist the trophy for his third U.S. Open win on Father's Day, days before Sam's first birthday, he said having his wife and daughter on hand made the win all the sweeter,

It's unreal. I understand why my dad was so emotional when I won and I brought it back to him. I understand, now that I'm a father, how he felt. To have my daughter there and Elin there, it means so much more when you do it. Obviously, it's not Father's Day, but close enough.

Jamie Lynn, 17, and fiancé Casey Aldridge have spent the pregnancy in Louisiana, with mother Lynne living recent months there as well.

Singer and television personality Charlotte Church, 22, and her boyfriend, rugby player Gavin Henson, 26, have revealed that they are expecting their second child.  In a statement titled "Here we go again!" on Charlotte's website, the couple shared that they are "delighted to announce" the pregnancy.

The couple are thrilled, as are their immediate families. 

No due date is known, but the new baby will join big sister Ruby Megan, 8 months. Charlotte also confirmed that despite the pregnancy, she will fulfill her obligations to The Charlotte Church Show in July and August.

An early morning trip to the beach with girlfriend Nicole Richie and daughter Harlow Winter Kate, 5-months, followed by seats at the Los Angeles Lakers playoff game was all Joel Madden needed for an "awesome" first Father's Day.  In an interview today with Ryan Seacrest, Joel said that Nicole and Harlow -- who is teething -- will not be going on tour with his band Good Charlotte this summer, but will instead "fly in for visits."  The 29-year-old singer also revealed that he and Nicole are in no rush to be married, telling Ryan "we don't have any plans."  He added,

I don't think it's completely necessary to rush plans and just try to get it done.  I think it's gotta be special, and it's gotta be the right time.  We have a great relationship.  Everyone else talks about (marriage) more than we do.

Joel's twin brother Benji Madden, who also took part in the interview, chimed in to tell Ryan that Joel, Nicole and Harlow are "the coolest family I've ever seen."

Peter André has been a father figure to his wife Katie "Jordan" Price's son Harvey Daniel, 6, since the little boy was just a toddler, and now the 35-year-old would like to make it official, if possible.

I'd love to adopt Harvey. If I was allowed, I would love to. It's a big process and not that easy. It's something I would definitely love to achieve in the next couple of years. He is my son -- he's mine.

Peter, who is also dad to son Junior Savva, 3, and daughter Princess Tiaamii, 11 months, admits that more kids are planned for him and Katie.

I feel we're only half way, if that. All our kids, even though Harvey is 6, are really under 5, so when they get past that stage it gets easier. They all start helping each other.

When Scott Baio and Renee welcomed daughter Bailey last November, to the outside world their lives seemed idyllic. Scott, whose notorious fear of commitment was fodder for the reality television shows Scott Baio is 45 ... and Single and Scott Baio is 46 ... and Pregnant, was poised to embrace first-time fatherhood and a life with Renee, his then-fiancée.  But when the phone rang the day after Bailey came home from the hospital, it was the couple's pediatrician on the other line bearing news that no new parent wants to hear. They would eventually learn that Bailey's expanded newborn screening (ENBS) test had returned a positive result for a rare and potentially deadly metabolic disorder known as glutaric acidemia type 1 (GA-1).

Whether or not there is an actual homebirth movement afoot, it appears as though the American Medical Association (AMA) fears there is.  It recently proposed a resolution which declares that women seeking to deliver at home under the care of a certified professional midwife (CPM) are putting their unborn children at risk, and the AMA is laying the blame for suggestions to the contrary -- at least in part -- squarely on the shoulders of Ricki Lake. 

The 39-year-old actress produced and appeared in The Business of Being Born, a documentary which examines the benefits of homebirth while laying out the disadvantages of delivering in a hospital setting.  "There has been much attention in the media by celebrities having home deliveries," the resolution notes. It goes on to cite an appearance by Ricki on the Today show where she discussed her homebirth with son Owen Tyler, turning 7 tomorrow, and her decision to include footage of his delivery in the film as further evidence that homebirth is being improperly promoted. 

"An apparently uncomplicated pregnancy or delivery can quickly become very complicated," the AMA warns, "necessitating the need for rigorous standards, appropriate oversight of obstetric providers and the availability of emergency care."  To that end, the resolution indicates the AMA's intent to develop model legislation "in support of the concept that the safest setting for labor, delivery and the immediate post-partum period is in the hospital, or a birthing center within a hospital complex."

In addition to Owen, Ricki is mom to Milo Sebastian, 11.

Actress Marisol Nichols showed off her pregnancy glow at the 35th Annual Vision Awards on Thursday, June 12th in Los Angeles, CA.  The 34-year-old 24 star and her husband Taron Lexton are expecting a little girl in late October.

Despite his lengthy career, Chris O'Donnell has never played a parent on-screen until now, in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.  The actor's latest offering features Chris in the role of 'dad' to the title character Kit; Taking the part was, Chris recently told lilSugar, a "natural evolution" that mirrored his own life as dad to Lily Ann, 8 ½, Christopher Eugene Jr. (a.k.a. Chip), 7 ½, Charles McHugh (a.k.a. Charlie), 4, Finley, 2, and Maeve Frances, 6 months.

It felt like the role was easy for me to relate to because I've got an 8-year-old daughter and the emotions that Mr. Kittredge is feeling for his daughter -- I just understood and connected with that.

Were he not already a father, accurately conveying the love Mr. Kittredge has for Kit would have been far more difficult, Chris said.  Describing the love he has for his own children as the kind "where you would put yourself in front of a moving train," Chris noted that "we all love our parents and we love our spouses, but until you have your own kid you don't really know what that kind of love is."

Chris has hinted previously that he took on the role of Batman in order to please his sons.  When asked by lilSugar if his daughter provided similar motivation for him to sign on to Kit Kittredge, he revealed that Lily Ann "is a fan" of the American Girl brand.  But regardless of the part he's playing, being away from their dad while he films on location is tough for the kids -- and vice versa, Chris said.

In my business it's feast or famine when it comes to spending time with my kids. I either have more time than I know what to do with or I don't have any time with them, so I try to maximize my time when I'm with them.

The family stays in touch via Apple iChat, Chris said, and sometimes even over the Internet he's asked a question that gives him pause.  When he's unsure of how to answer, Chris said often he relies on his own family for guidance ... and stalls for time!

I'll be calling my older brothers or sisters and asking what do we tell them about this again? Because you realize they are coming to you for all this information and most of it is instinctual, but every once in a while they'll come up with something and you'll think that's a tricky one. You know, let me get back to you on that one.

Chris, who turns 38 next week, and wife Caroline Fentress were married in 1997.
