Given the number of celebrity, or soon to be celebrity athletes on America's Olympic Team it's only right that I profile at least one of these hard working stars of sport.

I thought about this long and hard about who to feature and I decided that I would clue everyone in to a couple of lesser known, but still highly accomplished athletes.

After all, everyone is posting about Michael Phelps, the super human American swimmer who won 8 gold medals, so he's adequately covered, and I like being different.

Because of my love of the ocean and beaches I'm directing your attention to Kerri Walsh, shown above, who, along with her team mate, Misty May-Treanor, has taken her second Olympic gold medal in 4 years.

The great thing about beach volleyball is that there are virtually no costs; no matter how modest a woman's exercise budget may be, she can afford to play beach volleyball.

I'll bet my wife would agree; she was a fencer in college, and needed protective clothing and headgear, special shoes and swords.

All that's needed for beach volleyball is some skimpy underwear and a ball. That's it, you really don't need a beach, and a make believe net is good enough.

To keep costs down, the contestants don't even have to wear out their underwear by wearing it, and, no ball, no problem, use a make believe ball and jump around.

The sport can be practiced anywhere too, there's no need to waste gas driving to the beach, the street in front of my house is will do just fine.

But that's enough about economics.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor have never lost a match and I send them my sincere congratulations.

Say what you will about gossip columnists but for a while now you're likely to get more accurate news from supermarket rags than the mainstream media.

The 24/7 TV news cycle has devolved into nothing more than a hodgepodge of editorials masquerading as reporting as the TV networks compete for viewers and offer more opinion than fact.

The John Edwards - Rielle Hunter affair is an excellent example of this because nearly a year ago the "National Enquirer" ran a story about it but was largely ignored because if its status as a gossip magazine.

Magazines like the National Enquirer make no bones about "paying for actual gossip stories", which frankly, even though I'm not a reader of the tabloids, I find to be more honorable than the mainstream media's practice of manufacturing news.

The word "bombshell" isn't used very often these days but it was very popular years ago when women like Marilyn Monroe were considered modern sex symbols.

It's kind of funny to me, a long term observer of women, for scientific purposes only, to compare what constituted the "sexy" or "hot" women of my youth, to today's brazen hussies.

Years ago a "sex symbol" dressed in a semi-revealing way and acted seductively. Now women who want the world to know that they are sexy advertise the fact by wearing next to nothing and unashamedly reciting a list of their sexual preferences. The line between sexy and slutty has been blurred; much to the delight of the male of the species.

But the notion of a "Bombshell" still persists and actually denotes a particular style of sexy woman.

Typically a, "bombshell", was a, "blonde bombshell", of the platinum blonde variety who sported a full-figured body, a la today's Scarlett Johansson.

The idea was that an exploding bomb usually got one's attention.

Now, however, even brunettes can be considered bombshells, such as Halle Berry, and the voluptuous figure of the past has largely been replaced by the slim, athletic look of a Jessica Alba

Here's a look at who MSN's fashion peeps consider to be today's bombshells.

]]> http://www.skyfa.com/resource/9b010170a0debafff4908b4a49c28cd6.aspx Thu, 14 Aug 2008 17:00:07 GMT 注重細節 清涼身心的五個小竅門 囂張的陽光、炎熱的空氣與不時降臨的暴雨構成了這個夏季的主旋律，悶熱的室內叫人焦躁不安，做什麼事都很難靜下心。其實只要我們做一些簡單的事，利用身邊的小東西、小手段來降溫，既節約了能源，又獲得了涼爽，大家都可以嘗試做一下。


要涼快呀！！！！


妙用冰箱

1.給手腕洗個“冷氣浴”：用化妝用的小噴壺裝上水放進冰箱裡，當覺得熱的時候拿出來，在手腕上噴幾下，涼快下來的血液會很快流向全身，於是你就可以體會到從內到外的清涼了。

2.每天早上上班前把半乾的毛巾放在塑料保鮮袋裡，放進冰箱的冷藏室，在下班回來不出汗以後，用冷毛巾敷一下，非常涼快。

提醒：出汗的時候汗毛孔都是張開的，不能冰敷。

3.把凍好的冰塊放在盤子裡，放在風扇前面，這樣風扇吹出來的風就是自然又清涼的風了。

提醒：別放太多，小心水流一地，不好收拾。

4.找一隻乾淨的絲襪，在裡面裝上大米，然後把口係緊放進冰箱冷藏，睡覺前把它放進被單裡，就可以涼涼快快做個好夢了。由於大米密度比較高，在相當長的一段時間裡都可以保持比較低的溫度。這個涼米袋可以使你不用整夜開空調。

提醒：別讓身體直接挨著涼米袋，避免關節、肌肉疼痛。

注重細節

1.在晾衣服時，把床單、被罩這種大物件掛在陽台、居室的窗戶前做臨時窗簾，通風的潮濕的衣物會自動過濾掉熱氣，使家裡不那麼熱。如果是普通的小件衣服，掛在室內如門把手、椅背上，它們“自然幹”的過程也會吸收家裡熱氣，使家裡涼爽起來。

2.在家里幹淨的地板上不穿鞋，能夠叫身體迅速涼下來。

提醒：只限於乾淨的木地板，瓷磚地和水泥地不適用。

3.在氣溫超過28℃以後人們就會覺得熱，所以大熱天的時候，不管家裡有沒有人，最好在上午10：30後把窗戶和門都關嚴，拉上窗簾，把太陽和熱氣關在門外。據說可以減少45%的熱量進到家裡。

4.在洗澡時盡量使用淋浴。

5.洗澡的時候最好能打開衛生間的窗戶，如果人口簡單，洗澡的時候最好讓門也敞著；如果衛生間沒有窗戶，那就打開排氣扇，這樣就可以隨時把衛生間裡產生最多的、讓人覺得悶熱的濕氣及時排出去，空氣流通會減少悶熱的感覺。

吃重選擇

1.辣椒是居住在印度、泰國和墨西哥這樣比較炎熱的國家的人們愛吃的，因為辣椒裡含有一種單鹼，會使我們更快地出汗，隨著汗水的排出，我們的身體就涼爽了下來。

2.苦味的蔬菜是夏天最健康的蔬菜，除了苦瓜，還有蘆筍、萵筍、芹菜、芥藍等，有抗菌消炎、解熱祛暑、提神醒腦等功效。

提醒：苦味蔬菜一次別吃太多，以免出現噁心、嘔吐等不適。

3.泡點熱的綠茶。與涼飲料比起來，熱的飲料更能使你涼快，因為當氣溫高於人體皮膚溫度時主要靠出汗散熱了，喝熱茶一方面能促進排汗，還能利尿，尿液排出又會帶走一些熱量，所以就有了涼爽的感覺。其營養成分對皮膚也很有好處。

提醒：茶飲料裡茶的有效成分很少，又加了糖、色素等輔料，好喝，但是沒有自己泡的茶符合健康要求。

關掉電器

1.隨手關燈，換小功率的燈泡能夠減少散發的熱量。據說節能燈散發的熱量比白熾燈泡少70%。

2.充電後隨手拔掉充電器、看完了電視和DVD將電源拔下。

3.夏季將室內空調設置到26℃。因為空調每調高1℃，可節約用電3%～5%。

4.電腦臨時不用時換到睡眠模式，能夠減少產熱。

5.買一個USB接口的小風扇，耗電可以忽略不計，一個人用足夠了！

6.空調和風扇一起用，將風扇放在空調機下方，利用風搧風力可提高製冷效果。空調開啟幾小時後關閉，馬上開電風扇；最好開吊扇，把沉在房間下面的冷氣充分利用起來。晚上用此法更佳，不必整夜開空調，可省電近50%。

心靜身涼

1.給家裡放幾本有關冬天的圖書，可能給你很強的心理暗示，營造出清涼的感覺。睡覺前讀讀《雪孩子》最合適了。

2.書包裡裝個網球，在你遇到著急事氣沖牛斗的時候捏一捏，會使你安靜一些。

3.情緒不好的時候可以把煩惱的事寫下來，當痛苦和壓力寫下來的時候你會發現事情可能沒有那麼糟糕，只要你願意，還是可以把它們放在紙上，一扔了事。

4.保證睡眠是維持愉快心情的重要法寶。
