A 15-year-old Brockton, MA teen, Oliver Baptiste, was shot by his 18-year-old neighbor, William Suarez, for failing to hand over a videogame. Now, while we admit that this is a tragedy, and that it is senseless and never should have happened, we shiver a little at the connotation of the whole thing.
Because, in reality, this has nothing more to do with videogames than the fact that it's what the kid happened to have in his hand when he was shot. If you read a little deeper, you will see that Suarez had been waving that pistol around for days beforehand, and what happened, while sad, was almost inevitable.
Of course, opponents of gaming and videogames likely won't see it that way.
