Italian media giant, mediaset is suing YouTube and subsequently their parent company, Google, for $795,000,000 plus damages. That's plus damages!

Mediaset lawyers said that on a random visit they found 5,000 clips totaling about 325 hours of their content hosted and distributed on YouTube. And the "plus damages" from above is yet to be determined as it will be a calculated loss of revenue for advertising that they couldn't get because people weren't watching the shows on tv in the classic way.

YouTube has always been good about removing content as soon as there is a copyright complaint lodged on it, but this appears to be more a case of striking for cash than for stopping the content's proliferation on the internet and it could set a dangerous precedent if Google is found liable.
